A complete cast copper alloy strap end. The strape end is made of two trapzoidal zones whose narrow parallel edges touch, the upper being much bigger than the lower so that it is similar to a butterfly or hourglass shape. The larger section is split into two to provide a slot for a strap to be placed within. It is also pierced by two circular holes which contain circular domed headed rivets. Although in one piece, the strap end has two distinct parts: the strap attachment plate, and a long tapering shaft. An incomplete copper alloy strap end, dating to the Early Medieval period, circa AD 800 - 900. The strap end triangular in plan. The upper edge of the strap has a curved end with two rivet holes; one broken. The plate is divided into three sections by two raised transverse ridges. The upper section is decorated but worn. Th body of the object narrows to a stylised animal head at the tip. The head includes a rounded snout and indentations for the eyes.
