Cast copper alloy Early Medieval strap end, c.AD 900-1066. This is an openwork strap fitting with intricate decoration, including beaded running bars within borders and gilding. There is some patination on this object, which is generally unusual but it is known in the South East region. Gilding is also more common in objects from the late Early Medieval period. Due to the wear on this object, the full size and shap of the strap end is unclear.
