Silver casting spill. Surface metal analysis conducted at the British Museum indicated an approximate silver content for the spill of 98%; it weighs 4.83 grams.
The spill is bean-shaped, with three deep indentations on the underside; length, 16 mm. It may be spillage from casting a brooch or ingot. Abrasion and what might be a testing nick on the top surface suggest the possibility that the drop is Viking in date, although without an archaeological context it is difficult to be certain.
