A piece of lead shot dating from the late Post Medieval or Modern periods, about 1600 - 1900. The object has a maximum diameter of 11.63mm, and weighs 7.00g. This mass is indicative of use as a small pistol ball, or a large piece of buckshot. The existence of a substantial impact plane may add credence to the latter identification. There are no casting lines or sprues, suggesting the piece may have been constructed in a shot tower, and consequently probably of 19th century, or later date. Alternatively, impact and damage may have obliterated evidence of casting.

Two complete lead shots dating to the Modern period (c. AD 1850-2000). The shots are teardrop shaped with a casting casting sprue on the base. Around the widest part of the circumference are a series of undulating ridges, which are slightly more worn on one shot than the other. There are some signs of wear but they do not appear to have been fired. Both objects have a whitish grey patina. No comparable examples have yet been found on the PAS database. The finder has helpfully suggested they resemble a form of bullet known as a 'Jacob's rifle' bullet dating from the 1850s, with cha…
