Cast copper-alloy seal matrix of post-medieval date. The object is conical and octagonally facetted; there is a loop for suspension at the top with the remains of an iron chain in the loop. The surface of the die, on the underside of the matrix, has been gilded, and has a well-defined pattern of criss-cross grooves. Despite the gilding, and the anonymous, impersonal nature of the pattern, it is still likely that this object is a personal seal matrix. A similar seal matrix can be seen on the database at LVPL-5824C1.

An incomplete cast lead tablet, possibly a form of seal matrix. Probably Medieval (c. AD 1200 - c. AD 1400). Length 19.0mm, width 16.1mm and 2.4mm thick. Weight 4.87g. In plan, the object has parallel sides. One end is rounded and the opposite end is straight. The straight end may be the result of an old break. However, due to corrosion it is difficult to decide whether this is a break or whether it is a finished edge which is merely abraded. One face of the tablet has a moulded inscription in three lines, one above the other. It starts at the straight end and ends at the rounded en…

Lead seal matrix, incomplete, probably Medieval. Presumably originally rectangular and divided by a plain line into two square panels. Roughly two thirds of one panel is missing, but the remaining panel bears an incuse diagonal quatrefoil made up of four converging pointed ovals - just two survive in the broken panel. At the unbroken end is a flat projection, presumably a handle, set at right angles to the matrix, plain and with rounded terminal - this is now damaged and bent to one side. The other surface of the matrix is undecorated. Thick cream patina, broken in antiquity. Length (…

Seal-die, oval with fluted handle and broken pendant loop. The face with lozenge-shaped arms with mantling, three leaping fish (?) above and a griffin (?) below, very rubbed and worn so as to be indistinct. The lozenge-shaped arms, which are unidentified, are those of a noblewoman whose fob-seal this must be, the mantling and form suggest a 16th or 17th Century date.

A copper alloy seal matrix which is circular and is medieval. The matrix is 19.5mm in diameter and is 6.8mm thick. There is a rib on the reverse which expands into a pierced lug at one end. The design appears to be an animal with four legs and a long tail in a tree. It is likely to represent a squirrel. The legend reads: " * SIGILLVM ANORIS", but the N should be an M making it "AMORIS", translating as 'the seal of love'. Another matrix with the same legend is recorded as IHS-D269D4 on the database, and another expressing a similar idea is IHS-54B227. The squirrel may represent secrecy…

A lead alloy oval seal matrix from the medieval period. The matrix is a pointed oval and the central design is of a plant with a large pointed bud at the top of the stem which has two leaves on each side, one pair at the base and one half way up. The matrix is not in good condition and the legend is illegible. On the reverse is a lug (not pierced) at one end and three raised areas along the centre.
