A cast copper-alloy object, probably a window latch terminal. The latch appears to be in the shape of a long-beaked bird's head, with what could be incised detail for the beak and eye. However this is unclear due to wear on the object. There is also a moulded collar at the end of the object. The other side is plain and undecorated. The object has a dark purple patina with green patches. The latch is probably post medieval to modern.Similar to object HAMP-477952 in the database. Iron Latch, as identified by finder. Wrought iron rectangular-section rod with a rhomboid end which appears to bear a centrally placed iron pin of diameter 5mm. The mid-section of the object is narrowed, but expands again at its other end; it is uncertain whether a flattened appearance here may be the result of the loss of metal due to corrosion. The object is also bent at its mid-point. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1800. Length (as found): 46.8mm, Width: 13.6mm, Thickness (clear of pin): 5.4mm, Weight: 10.67gms.

A forged iron latch, dating from the post-Medieval period and probably from a door or window. The latch has been hand forged from a rectangular bar which would have been approximately 14 mm x 6 mm. The roundel has been hammered out very thinly and has a tapered profile. The loop end has a circular 10 mm hole and the metal is waisted at this point, suggesting a punch was used. Much of the hook end is missing, but the remaining portion shows the bar was narrowed and probably drawn to a point. Dimensions are: Length 102 mm, Diameter of roundel 57.5, Weight 54 grams. This latch was …

A forged iron latch which is probably from a door or window. The latch has been hand forged from a rectangular bar which would have been approximately 14 mm x 7 mm in section. The roundel has been hammered out and has a tapered profile. The attachment end has a circular loop hole of c.10mm diameter which was probably made using a punch. The downturned hook end has been drawn to a point, with a single hammer blow to create the swan neck.
