An incomplete copper-alloy lamp hanger of Medieval date. It has been cast in one and measures 43.00mm in height and 24.45mm in width. It consists of a central vertical shaft which terminates in a suspension loop. The base of this shaft flares outwards and is in the centre of three arms, which project at right angles from the central shaft. Each arm is incomplete due to old breaks, the missing terminals probably originally had circular perforations through them from which chains would have hung, to hold the lamp below. There is another circular perforation, through a small central …

An incomplete medieval copper alloy lamp hanger or suspender probably dating from AD 1300 - 1400. It has a conical waisted shaft (11.73 mm length and 6.74 in maximum diameter) which sits on a circular platform, the shaft terminates with a pointed top, missing its suspension loop.  At the base of the shaft are four evenly spaced arms, D-shaped in cross-section, that branch out at 90 degrees from the plane of the shaft. One of the arms has broken in antiquity and is missing. Each arm terminates with a zoomorphic head with large oval ears, a rounded tap…

Medieval copper alloy hanger, probably from a hanging lamp. A central shank of roughly circular cross section is topped by a loop. At the base of the shank are three radiating arms, each of which terminates in a loop. Under the base is a broken loop and a hole has been drilled at the intersection of two of the arms which forms a right angle with the remains of the broken loop. There are file marks across most of the object indicating finishing. Weight 8.68g, height approximately 32mm. See Egan, Medieval Households, p.130-1. 14th/15th century.

An incomplete copper-alloy medieval lamp hanger. It has three arms branching outwards from a central point, each vertically flattened and tapering slightly towards an abrupt break. In the centre of the upper face a suspension arm projects upwards at a right-angle, terminating in an incomplete circular loop, its outer end missing. A further small loop projects from the centre of the lower face. The surface is corroded and the breaks are well worn. Egan (1998, 131, fig.99, nos.356-7) illustrates two similar examples and suggests that they were used to …

Incomplete medieval copper alloy suspension unit or holder for a lamp or censer, consisting of a vertical arm below a suspension loop, the upper part of which is missing, and above three horizontal arms all of which have been broken recently but would have ended beyond a transverse hole. On the underside there is a horizontally pierced lug. Weight 6.69g. Extant height 31mm. Similar to examples found at St Peter's church, Guestwick, Norfolk (Williams, V. in Rogerson et al. 1987, 73, fig.50, no.2), at the Greyfriars, Norwich (Huddle, J. in Emery, P. A complete copper alloy lamp hanger or suspender of Medieval date (c. AD 1350-1500). The object is made of a tri-pointed plate and shaft piece. The shaft piece is sub-rectangular in cross-section with rounded corners and a thick and wider attatchment loop at its top. This is pierced by a circular hole (3.5mm diameter). At the opposite end of the shaft, on the underside of the tri-pointed piece is a second smaller arched loop creating a D-shaped aperture. This loop is 8..2mm long, 1.9mm wide and projects 2.1mm from the tri-pointed plate. Above this loop the tri-pointed p…

An incomplete copper alloy object, possibly a lamp hanger of medieval date, c. AD 1350-1450. The object is comprised of a circular attachment loop. The bottom of this loop connects to a very short oval sectioned shank which splits into three branches which extend at 120 degrees from the shank and each terminates in circular attachment loops. These have very cleanly cut circular loops. The metal has a mid green patina and is worn. The hanger is 20.33mm in height, 18.95mm in length, 18.04mm wide and weighs 5.26g. According to Egan (2010, p.130) lamps of ceramic and glas…
