A rectangular light blue cut glass gem from a finger ring, of post medieval to modern date. The stone is table cut, with a convex back and bevelled edges to the front, which is flat and engraved with a heraldic shield depicting a bull, standing right (left on the impression), with crescent above, the whole within a border of pellets.

A garnet gemstone measuring 6 mm by 4.2 mm by 1.9 mm. Given the comment from Kieran McCarthy of Wartski (see below), it is highly likely this is the missing setting for finger-ring HAMP-6C5109 / 2017 T761 (pictured). With grateful thanks to Kieran McCarthy of Wartski (www.wartski.com) for bringing the gemstone to our attention and for providing the image and information about the garnet. McCarthy comments 'The garnet .... fits the bezel perfectly. The hollow bezels of this type of ring were packed with a material that pushed the stone upwards. Over time in the ground this substance…

Glass gem. An oval plano-convex glass paste gem of opaque black glass bearing a quasi-floral pattern of white trails with subsidiary trails of gold flecks. Slight chipping at the edge may suggest the body of the object is of black glass, with the other tints applied; the back is also uniformly black away from its edges. The finder prudently reserved this object against the possibility of an early medieval - Middle Saxon - date. This reporter would consider a recent (later 19th-century) date to be more likely, with this probably forming the centre piece of an item of costume jewellery.…

Glass gemstone. An oval translucent glass stone of biconvex lentoid section, with rhomboid facets on both sides, now smoothed by wear, and with recent chipping along the aris where the sides meet. The tint resembles that of an amethyst, which this is not; the glass is, however, without discernible bubbles, and so may be of fairly recent date. The bifacial working suggests pendant use, presumably framed, and possibly as a necklace or ear ring component. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1750-1850. Length: 21.6mm, Width: 12.1mm, Thickness: 6.8mm, Weight: 2.51gms

Polished stone, possible finger ring bezel. An oval sliver of dark brown polished gem stone, highly glossed overall and chipped at one end. The finder suggests this to be a possible inset from jewellery; the small size would probably make this more likely than an identification as a mount from a casket or furniture. Suggested date: Unknown, 43-1800. Length: 12.6mm, Width: 10.0mm, Thickness: 1.8mm, Weight: 0.45gms.

Glass Gem. Paste gem, probably moulded in red glass, of facetted sub-rectangular form with a concave underside. This would appear likely to derive from toy jewellery. Suggested date: Modern, 1850-1950. Length: 13.5mm, Width: 9.5mm, Thickness: 4.6mm, Weight: 0.90gms.
