A fragment of gold foil that is folded and potentially once from a larger item of uncertain dating. The undiagnostic fragment is formed from a flat piece of gold foil. It was potentially folded as plough damage rather than intentionally due to the way it is folded on an angle. There do not appear to be any visible marking on the object. The surfaces are smooth and of a yellow/gold colour. The metal has a slight ripple effect along one short edge. Due to the undiagnostic nature of the find it cannot be securely dated to older than 300 years old and as such falls outside the…

Description: A fragment of gold sheet foil with a series of decorative applied repousse marks presented on the outer face. Due to the condition and the small size of the fragment the overall design is unclear. The sheet has been folded into two and it is difficult to establish if this is deliberate and post depositional or later damage in the ploughsoil. What remains of the decorative design consists of a series of nine circular pointille bosses formed with a round headed punch or awl that has been worked from the underside to create the form. These bosses are arranged along one long…

Gold foil. A strip of fine beaten gold foil of thickness 0.18mm. The strip was apparently straight-edged and has been neatly folded at least nine times producing a neat and compact flattened roll. This material would appear to be prepared for craft use, as for the decoration by gilding of metalwork, rather than being bullion. Suggested date: Unknown, Roman to Post-Medieval, 100-1600. Given the material and suspected date, this object is to be considered as potential Treasure, reference: 2012 T485. REPORT FOR HM CORONER A narrow plain band (about 6 mm wide) of very thin …
