A cast lead barrel shaped weight, probably from the medieval to post medieval period. In use it resembles the medieval fishing weights described in the 'The archaeology of medieval fishing tackle' by J M Steane and M Foreman - page 97. In this instance, the hole diameter is 8.8mm and there are clear signs of off centre wear due to the line that would have passed trough the weight.

This is a collection of four lead weights, probably from the medieval to post medieval period. In use they resemble the medieval fishing weights described in the 'The archaeology of medieval fishing tackle' by J M Steane and M Foreman - page 97. A small cast lead alloy weight with two pierced or cast fixing holes of probable post medieval origin circa 1500. These weights are probably related to fishing, similar weights can be found in the CBA Research Report No 74 at - The Archaeology of Medieval Fishing Tackle – by J M Steane and M Foreman. A cast lead fishing weight dated from the late medieval period circa 1500. This example has a roughly square cross-section with parallel sides. Each side is further decorated with a ladder style moulded relief. The top attachment loop is partly broken at the attachment point; the break is new and probably accidentally caused during excavation. A cast lead fishing/net weight dated from the late medieval period circa 1500. This example has an approximately flattened diamond cross-section. In plan, starting at the top loop the weight widens before coming back in again to a blunted lower section, thus roughly lentoid in form. There is some decorative style to the weight with the attachment loops moulded to run rope-like, around the outer edge of the weight.
