Copper alloy finger ring, probably medieval in date. The outside surface of the ring is decorated with lines which make a zig-zag pattern and a dot in each triangle. The inside surface is plain and smooth. It is D-shaped in section. The ring has been cast but the decoration appears to have been added after casting. Cast copper alloy finger rings were found in London dating to the medieval period (Egan and Pritchard; 1991; 331-2).

Roman or Early Medieval copper-alloy finger ring, possibly created as a reuse of an earlier object. The ring consists of a flat band of metal which has been bent round to form a ring. The two ends of the band do not meet, leaving a small gap in the circle of the ring. One end of the band of metal tapers and curves to a pointed terminal but the other end is rather crudely cut off square across the band. This indicates that the band may originally have been longer and therefore part of a different object such as, for example, a narrow bangle. The band is decorated with an incised line ru…

CORONER'S REPORT Description of Find The ring is substantially gold and consists of a broad, punch-decorated band tapering sharply at each end to wire terminals which were originally twisted together; width, 26 mm. On either side of a very worn, beaded median rib the ring is decorated with two rows of interlocking punched triangles with triple pellets in each. The ring has been distorted while in the ground and the ends are now almost untwisted as a result. Medieval copper alloy finger ring. It is missing its setting, but is otherwise complete and is covered in a green patina. The slender hoop, flattend in cross section, rising to a pointed bezel. The bezel has a conical indentation for the setting. It is similar to 1608 and 1609 from London (Egan and Pritchard 1991). Because of their shape, these rings are known as stirrup rings and were popular from the middle of the 12th century until at least the middle of the 15th (Egan and Pritchard 1991, 326).
