An incomplete silver-gilt signet ring Date: Probably first half 16th century Description: Silver-gilt signet ring with lozenge-shaped bezel and faceted shoulders. The bezel has a beaded border and is engraved with the initials TS. Discussion: The decoration on the shoulders and the lozenge bezel are a late medieval type, but the lettering is more 16th-century in style, hence the later dating. Metal content: The precious metal content of the ring fulfils the requirements of the Treasure Act in that it is greater than 10%. J. Rudoe British Museum
