A probable Roman copper-alloy finger ring oval shaped bezel or setting, the rest of the ring is now missing. The bezel is oval in shape, 13.33mm by 10.60mm in size and has a recessed front face where originally a setting possibly a gem or intaglio could have been held, the edges of the front face has traces of a white metal coating. The back face is also recessed, although not so much and there are possible traces of solder within this which may have held the bezel in place, no other attachment can be seen.

Description of find An incomplete base silver Roman finger ring, most of the hoop is missing due to old breaks, now worn. It has an unusual reddish brown patina over most of the surface, which appears to be caused by corrosion products but in the small areas that this patina does not cover the underlying metal is a silvery grey and looks distinctly silver. The hoop fragments are D-shaped in section and flare into shoulders which have traces of horizontal grooves/mouldings running across them, there is then an oval groove/moulding around the bezel area, which is oval in shape and …

A copper-alloy probable late Anglo-Saxon finger-ring. It consists of a solid copper-alloy hoop which has a D-shaped/ oval worn cross-section and tapers to a point at the ends; originally the terminals would have overlapped but now they are just apart making the hoop U-shaped. It measures 19.15mm by 17.08mm in external size. The hoop is 3.80mm in thickness at its thickest central point. Similar finger-rings have been published by A. Goodall in Rogerson and Dallas 1984, fig. 110, one (no. 19) well sealed in a context of 10th- or 11th-century date. Other examples on the PAS database …

A copper-alloy finger ring, now distorted but appearing to have had tapering possibly overlapping terminal ends originally. The hoop is flat and rectangular with border grooves and flares into an oval shaped bezel, delimited by decorative beading and grooves. The finger ring has a dark brown patina and patches of green corrosion. Although no parallel could be found for it it could perhaps be late early medieval or medieval in date. It measures 31.30mm by 18.32mm in distorted size, the bezel area is 5.72mm in width and hoop tapers to 2.58mm in width.

A copper-alloy finger ring most likely to be late medieval or post medieval in date. The hoop has an oval section and flares slightly towards the bezel, just before the bezel the hoop is decorated with transverse grooves. The bezel is octagonal in shape and has a deep recess, presumably to accomodate a gem originally. The finger ring measures 20.27mm by 23.23mm externally and 17.04mm by 15.72mm internally.

A complete copper alloy wire finger ring of Roman date. The hoop is constructed from a single strand of copper alloy that is circular in section. The ends of the hoop overlap to give two parallel strands of wire that act as a bezel of sorts. They are then twisted to create two tightly coiled spirals at each side of the bezel before being wrapped around the shoulders of the hoop. The ring measures 22.71mm in external and 18.22mm in internal diameter, and weighs 3.19g. A near identical example is published by Crummy from an excavated context at Roman Colchester (Crummy, 1983: no. 175…

A silver gilt finger ring of Medieval to Post-Medieval date. The ring consists of a flat hoop that is rectangular in section. On the exterior surface the band is decorated with a central cabled pattern that may once have run the entire circumference of the hoop although this is now uncertain due to extensive wear on the hoop opposite the bezel. Where the hoop joins the bezel is a sharply angled raised transverse ridge. The bezel itself is rectangular in plan with rounded edges, is sub-trapezoidal in profile and has a central rectangular recess that is now missing any trace of the gems…

A gold finger ring of Medieval date. It has a simple undecorated wire hoop that expands at the shoulders and opposite the bezel narrows, perhaps partly due to use wear. The hoop is slightly misshapen and this appears to also be the result of usage rather than post-depositional damage. At the junction of hoop and bezel are prominent transverse rectangular ridges. The bezel itself is sub-rectangular in plan with two long tapering sides that have a short straight side at the base end and a wider, curved top end. In profile the bezel is sub-lozenge shaped with flattened base and top. The …

This tiny gold ring with thin hoop and square bezel set with a purple stone is puzzling in that the shape corresponds to 16th-century rings, but it is so thin and lightweight as to suggest that it may in fact be early 19th century. In the absence of further evidence to confirm a pre-1709 dating, the ring falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.

A gold finger ring of uncertain date. It has a plain circular band that is sub-circular in section with a flat inner edge. The inner edge has several indentations and pock marks, presumably caused during production, but apparently no maker's marks or hallmarks. The ring measures 17.36mm in internal diameter, 22.84mm in external diameter, and weighs 8.58g. This plain gold ring is a beach find from close to a known Roman site. It is therefore possible that it could date to any time from the Roman period onwards. It was found over 20 years ago and is a single stray find, it therefore doe…
