Treasure case : 2008 T700 Gold ring, the hoop broken at the back, formed of a thin flat band, with stylised scrolls at the shoulder, the oval bezel with a monkey in relief. There are traces of white enamel on the shoulders and green and black (?) on the bezel. While this ring conforms to 16th century shape and decoration, the use of a flat hoop and bezel, with metal of this thinness, is extremely unusual and has no parallels in the British Museum collection. While we cannot rule out the possibility that it may be 16th-17th century, the balance of probability is that it is no…

Cast copper alloy strip with a raised design of bunches of four leaves rising from a base line with small knops btween them against a red enamel background. The strip probably originally formed a ring and the elaborate decoration may suggest a finger ring rather than ferrule. The regularity of the design and it's style suggests a post medieval date c.1600-1800 although such a plain and item is hard to date precisely. The strip is 27.2mm long, 4.9mm wide and 1.1mm thick. It weighs 1.42 grams.

A late medieval finger-ring, with a D-shaped section. The hoop is decorated with a single zigzag groove, juxtaposed with small decorative punches. An almost identical ring with the same makers mark was found near Buckingham 2006/T528 and declared to be Treasure. It is now in the Bucks County Museum. The finger-ring is silver-gilt and dates from the early sixteenth century. Length 25mm, width 23mm, breadth 6mm & thickness 1.25mm. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

Late post-medieval or early modern cast copper alloy finger-ring with illegible hall- or maker's mark on the inside. The ring is crudely made, but thanks to the precious metal, the engraved decoration on the outside of the hoop is still very crisp and clear: a row of leafy snowdrops. This finger-ring is not unique in the North West: three others were recorded on this database (all of which were made of cast cu-alloy) and these were found near Aintree (Liverpool), Preston (Lancashire) and Halton (nr. Lancaster): LANCUM-C8F8D5, LANCUM-CF9042 and LANCUM-D83FF7. Another is recorded under …

A damaged gold posey ring inscribed 'THY DESART HATH WOONE MY [heart symbol!] A thin gold band, the exterior decorated with a wreath motif, with alternate bands keyed for enamel or engraved with a foliate motif, inscribed inside in lower case: 'THY DESART HATH WOONE MY' followed by an engraved heart, probably once enamelled. The lettering style is one that goes on well into the 18th century and in the absence of a date or maker's mark, there is not enough evidence to confirm that this is more than 300 years old.

A copper alloy signet finger ring dating from the post medieval period. The ring is 19.6mm in diameter and 2.4mm thick. It has an oval bezel which is decorated with indented dots round the edge and an incised design which may be a crown or a thistle. The rest of the ring is undecorated. The condition of the metal suggests a post medieval date. It is brown with very little patina. A similar example on the database is SWYOR-4036D1
