The band is inscribed on the inside Fear God love me, and bears the touch-mark AP (conjoined at the base). Dimensions: Weight: 5.71g. Internal diameter: 19mm Note: The dating of such rings can be difficult. The style of the lettering is post-1650, and it is probably early 18th-century in date (again based on the beginnings of a fluid letter style). The only AP mark noted by I Pickford, Jackson's Silver and Gold Marks (1989), and A G Grimwade, London Goldsmiths 1697-1837. Their Marks & Lives (London, 1976), is Abraham Portal, dated 1749. However the mark on this ring differs slightly, …

The ring, which is mis-shapen, has an external diameter of about 21mm, and the hoop is rounded on the outside to a D cross-section. The outside is plain; the interior of the band is inscribed in italic script I like my choice. The tops and bottoms of the letters are missing as a result of extreme wear. There are three marks in front of the inscription: a damaged and illegible date letter, a lion passant in a rectangular cartouche with rounded corners (a sterling standard mark) and the letters AH, with dot between the letters, in a rectangular cartouche. A complete copper-alloy finger ring, measuring 21.5mm in external diameter and 18mm in internal diameter. The hoop is 5mm in width. On the inside face of the hoop there is what is most likely to be a maker's mark, it appears to consist of the letter; 'WSCH.' Traces of gilding can be seen around this mark and it is likely that the whole ring was originally gilded, although gilding can no longer be seen anywhere else. This ring is most likely to be post medieval in date, due to the presence of the maker's mark.

A copper-alloy possible bezel from a finger ring. Oval in shape measuring 14mm in length and 10mm in width. The outside edge of this oval consists of a copper-alloy band and within this is more copper-alloy which has corroded to a reddish colour, implying that there is iron within it as well. Both faces are slightly concave. One face has a rectangular indentation in its centre, which appears to have been cut out of the surrounding metal. This object may be a bezel for a finger ring, if so it is most likely to be post-medieval in date.

A large silver finger-ring, probably dating to the 16th or 17th century. The hoop has been made to look like a belt, and has three double looped buckles, two the same size and one slightly larger. the sytle of buckle dates the ring to circa 1550 - 1650. The 'belt' has been decorated and the buckles have pins and pin recesses. The ring has been damaged and so is incomplete; the break looks quite recent. The silver has started to go a dark greyish-silver colour.

There is also a makerโ€™s mark, which is very close to Grimwade no. 1731 (Grimwade, 1976) and can almost certainly be identified with it. Fragment of gold post-medieval finger ring. The fragment is the bezel of the ring. It is rectangular in plan and trapezoidal in section. It appears to be hollow. The bezel is set with a rectangular cut red stone (or possibly red glass). The stone in the second setting is damaged. The sides of the bezel are decorated with raised lines, which form scallops. Beneath these, on all sides is a border of tiny dotted or dashed indents. Around the bottom of the bezel is a slight flanged rim. This is decorated with a running motif of raised hollow squares and solid dashes. The underneath of …

Cast copper alloy finger ring. 18th century in date. Voided decoration consists of crosses divided by two double lines, and a line design within a box (possibly flowered pattern). There is a damaged bezel which remains as a knop with a trace of gold gilt around it. This gilt can also be seen at various points around the hoop. There is no inscription. Rings from this period are generally referred to as 'fairground rings' and may have been bought from small traders at fairs or markets (Bailey 1997 page 30).

Large gold finger-ring. The external diameter is 23.5 mm and the internal diameter is 19 mm. The hoop is 7 mm wide, and is D-shaped or very slightly biconvex in cross-section. It is 2.5 mm thick and weighs 13.69g. The exterior is completely undecorated; the interior has an engraved 'posy' between two slightly different ornamental scrolly motifs. The posy reads (in Italian, and in italic lettering) Questo ci, fa una. This can be translated as 'This to (or for) us, makes one'. A slightly freer translation might be 'This ring makes us one'. Judy Rudoe has commented that the style of the …

Possibly a finger ring from the Post-Medieval period, but a much later date cannot be ruled out. Two lengths of copper-alloy have been twisted together to form this 'ring'. The metal have gone a mid greyish-green colour and appears to be covered in a white powdery sustance.

The inside is plain, but the outer face has plain borders and a recessed central panel decorated with nine lozenges (including the two incomplete lozenges next to the seam). Post Medieval to Modern gold finger ring. The band has a 'D' shaped cross section and has an inscription 'Content is a treasure' with the maklers mark Rn in a rectangle on the inside of the band. The ring weighs 4.41 grams and has a diameter of 19.66mm. Discussion: A similar inscription can be seen in Evans 90, 'Noe treasure to content' which has maker's mark dated 1630-62. However the makers mark appears to match AF.1338 (dated 17th- 18th Century - British Museum collection). Based on the design and the above information the ring cannot be securely dated to pre-1711 and as su…

A copper-alloy finger ring. 20mm in diameter and the frame is 2.5mm wide. The inner face is flat and the outer surface has raised moulded decoration in the form of a twisted ropework design. This design can be paralled with a 15th century posy ring from Surrey (D. Williams; 1999; pp.185) and also with BH-48CEE6. However, the reddish brown patina on this example suggests a much later post-medieval to modern date.

Description: The finger-ring is complete, although there is now a break in the hoop. The sides of the hoop are bevelled towards the interior and flank a convex midsection. The applied decoration is confined to the convex midsection and is arranged around four equally-spaced lateral incised lines, which define the narrowest and widest points of two decorative bands. These decorative bands begin as a point on one side and gradually widen to the midpoint, before narrowing again to a point on the opposite side of the hoop. The bands contain pellets in sunken relief. The lateral incised li…

Post-Medieval gold finger-ring. Gold finger-ring with flattish band, inscribed inside in lower case 'be true in hart', with very faint maker's mark, which may possibly read ? Discussion: A posy ring in the BM with similar short inscription 'In trust be juste' has what appears to be the same maker's mark, the letters HT conjoined with the T above the H, but it has not been identified in any of the standard reference works (1961,1202.414). Nonetheless the balance of probability is that this ring is more than 300…
