A complete post medieval copper alloy finger ring, dating from c.1500 - 1800. The ring is a circular band. There is a horizontal line where the band has been soldered together. The hoop has been bent out of shape. The ring has a whitish-grey patina suggesting that is has lead content. The diameter is 18mm and the weight 2.35g. It is not definitive that this is a finger ring it maybe a component element of another object like a ferrule.

Cast lead alloy ring, possibly a finger ring or the handle of a candlestick holder, very probably dating from the 16th century. The ring is complete, with a button-like bezel set on one side. The inside of the ring is rough and still bears the remnants of the casting seam while most of the hoop is decorated with a moulded rope-like pattern. The small button is circular and sits on a short stem with circular cross section. It is decorated with a moulded female bust, possibly crowned. The ruffled collar is indicated by moulded dots and she has an eye and a sharp nose/profile. The mouldi…

Post Medieval lead alloy decade, or rosary, finger ring. The loop of the ring is decorated with ten knops with a large bezel at the top. The bezel (diameter 12.5mm) of the ring has no visible engraving. The loop has been distorted but the ring is otherwise complete and undamaged. Decade, or rosary, rings were most abundant during the period when recusant Roman Catholics where heavily penalised by the law. Decade rings were widely used in Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria as a discreet way to maintain fidelity with their chosen form of worship. Probably dates from c1500 to c1725 AD. Di…

A lead alloy finger ring. The band is flat in section, and widens out gradually to form an oval shaped bezel. This in turn is is pyramidal, coming to a soft point in the centre. This point forms the middle of a flower, around which are impressed eight circular petals, spaced at regular intervals. It has an even grey patina, in the petals there is a brown residue which may be the remains of a colouring of some sort. Althpugh the shape may indicate a Roman period firn, the decoration and material would suggest that it is likely to be a more modern trinket ring, see for example NLM-A…
