Cast lead alloy posy style finger ring of probably post medieval or early modern date (1600 – 1750). The hoop of the finger ring is irregular in plan, although originally it would have been circular. This distortion is likely to have been caused by wear and movement in the ploughsoil. The outer face of the hoop has been decorated with a series of both cast and pierced designs. These are based on a series of floral and heart shaped patterns. The design consists of two conjoined hearts, the edges of which have been pierced to emphasis the pattern, these elements are situated at the cen…

Thin sheets of lead alloy, probably pewter. Possible finger ring fragment, with bezel at the front, or possible elaborate potmend. Layerd circular sheets of lead arranged in a way which suggest the bezel of a finger ring. The 'reverse' has a narrow strip of lead 5mm wide and 2mm thick, soldered onto it, curving slightly to suggest the frame for a ring. Probable post-medieval date, 18th century onwards.

Lead alloy and iron possible Finger Ring fragment. Drawn wire band fragment to which is soldered a tiny flat oval disc of length 8mm to serve as a bezel. Most of the hoop is lost, and whitish corrosion products cover the bezel and its union with the wire band. Length: 13.1mm, Diameter (of wire): 1.4mm, Width (bezel): 6.8mm, Thickness (bezel): 1.1mm, Weight: 0.43gms.

Cast lead alloy ring, possibly a finger ring or the handle of a candlestick holder, very probably dating from the 16th century. The ring is complete, with a button-like bezel set on one side. The inside of the ring is rough and still bears the remnants of the casting seam while most of the hoop is decorated with a moulded rope-like pattern. The small button is circular and sits on a short stem with circular cross section. It is decorated with a moulded female bust, possibly crowned. The ruffled collar is indicated by moulded dots and she has an eye and a sharp nose/profile. The mouldi…

Lead alloy finger ring. Crudely cast ring, approaching a stirrup shape with a thickened raised bezel bearing three crudely incised adjacent slashes. Traces of gilding remain within and without the band. Though the internal diameter would suggest a young and/or female wearer, the construction might seem more apt to theatrical costume or fancy dress or to a toy. At all events, this is less sophisticated in its appearance than most 19th-century fairings or trinket rings. Suggested date: Post-Medieval to Modern, 1800-1940. Internal diameter: 16.8mm, Height: 23.5mm, Band Width: 5.6mm, B…
