Gold finger ring with a slightly misshapen hoop, which broadens at the shoulders to meet the bezel. The bezel is comprised of a rectangular red glass to imitate a precious stone, in a rectangular setting. Arched decoration surrounds the setting. The bezel of this ring has close parallels with 2004 T485 (see Treasure Annual Report 2004, no.369), but this ring is a 19th-century imitation of a medieval-style ring. Therefore, this is classed as not Treasure.

Treasure case : 2008 T700
Gold ring, the hoop broken at the back, formed of a thin flat band, with stylised scrolls at the shoulder, the oval bezel with a monkey in relief. There are traces of white enamel on the shoulders and green and black (?) on the bezel.
While this ring conforms to 16th century shape and decoration, the use of a flat hoop and bezel, with metal of this thinness, is extremely unusual and has no parallels in the British Museum collection. While we cannot rule out the possibility that it may be 16th-17th century, the balance of probability is that it is no…

Gold finger ring Date: probably 17th Century Description: A gold finger ring, which has been bent and distorted out of shape. The hoop has a circular section, which widens towards the shoulders. The upper surfaces of the shoulders are decorated with an incised cross-hatched design inside a linear border. The bezel has a wide U-shaped with turned up lips on either side. In the centre of this there is a double claw, which would have held a stone or gem. This is now missing. The claws each have a collar around them. The cross-hatched decoration suggests a date in the 17th Century.

A large cast copper alloy finger ring, probably a male finger ring, meant to be worn over a glove - due to the size of the hoop. The bezel is flat and octagonal in shape and has incised decoration on it - but this surface is badly corroded resulting in the loss of the surface. The design is possible a Tudor rose. The bezel sits proud of the shoulders. The shoulders then taper to the back of the hoop, the hoop has a D-shaped section.
The ring is probably post-medieval in date.

A cast silver ring, probably dating to post-1710 and therefore not a Treasure case. The ring is formed from a hoop with no bezel. The hoop is circular with a D-shaped section. The outer surface is decorated with an incised flowing vine or leaf design. The wavy markings could indicate a 17th-century date, but the lack of an inscription and a maker's mark means that you can reasonably say there is not enough evidence to confirm a date more than 300 years old.
The metal is a mid greyish-silver colour and is slightly worn. The ring is 20.6mm in diameter, 19.6mm thick and weighs 1.8g.
