Gold posy ring from the late 16th to early 17th centuries. Treasure find- 2007-T156. The British Museum curator report- 'Small gold finger ring, slightly out of shape. Foliate design on the external surface and inscribed inside + DON + DAMI, followed by a sprig. Very slight traces of black enamel are visible on both the inner and outer faces.' Discussion: The style of the capital letter inscription compares well with other 16th and early 17th century rings in The British Museum's collection. Gold mourning ring dating to 1679. The inside band is inscribed 'Mrs Sarah Doding died 26th Nov 79'. The outside of the band is decorated with engraved designs of a poppy, a rose and a thistle with a black background (in enamel). The bezel consists of a skull and crossbones picked out in white enamel. It is in very good condition and all the detail is very clear. The design is significant of the times and represent certain things. The rose is for England, the thistle for Scotland (and the Stuarts) and the poppy for Holland.

It is decorated with a central incised sun-burst/star style design and a grooved line around the edge. The shoulders of the loop are bevelled. Cast copper alloy finger ring dating to the Post-Medieval period, (1500-1800). The object has a circular hoop and a hexagonal bezel. Raised shoulders join the bezel to the hoop and are decorated with horizontal grooves. The bezel is decorated with four leaves which join in the centre. These are surrounded by four grooves on each side from which expands smaller transverse grooves. There is a break on one side of the hoop and the shoulders have been damaged. The bezel is 5.04mm thick 15.82mm in width and 14.56mm in length. The hoop 2.04mm thick. The object has a dark green patina.

Gold Post Medieval mourning ring dating to 1727. It is inscribed in the inside of the ring with 'Mary Normandy ob 9 Jan 1727 cet 55' The outside of the ring is highly decorated with black enamel. Firstly there is a skeleton. Below the skeleton is a crossed shovel and pick. Next there is an hour glass. All of these pictures symbolise death and the end of time/life. Below this is an open book with the words 'MEMENTO MORI' written on the 2 pages. This means a memento of death. There is an X below the word MORI which just appears to be to fill space.
