Gold finger ring with a slightly misshapen hoop, which broadens at the shoulders to meet the bezel. The bezel is comprised of a rectangular red glass to imitate a precious stone, in a rectangular setting. Arched decoration surrounds the setting. The bezel of this ring has close parallels with 2004 T485 (see Treasure Annual Report 2004, no.369), but this ring is a 19th-century imitation of a medieval-style ring. Therefore, this is classed as not Treasure.

Gold post-Medieval mourning ring Date: early 18th century Description: D-shaped hoop, with skull on the bezel, showing traces of white enamel. There are also traces of black enamelling on the outside of the band, within the cross-hatching. On the inside is the inscription 'sic omnibus', with the maker's mark 'DA'. There are slight traces of black enamel within the lettering. Discussion: The d-shaped section is typical of the 17th and early-18th centuries. The maker's mark is very likely to be that of Isaac Davenport, who registered this mark as a smallworker in 1705 (Grimwade, no. 434…

It is inscribed to the inside with the motto "TO LIGHT TO REQUITE". Discussion: Posy rings were popular love tokens often used as betrothal or wedding rings. Gold finger ring Date: probably 17th Century Description: A gold finger ring, which has been bent and distorted out of shape. The hoop has a circular section, which widens towards the shoulders. The upper surfaces of the shoulders are decorated with an incised cross-hatched design inside a linear border. The bezel has a wide U-shaped with turned up lips on either side. In the centre of this there is a double claw, which would have held a stone or gem. This is now missing. The claws each have a collar around them. The cross-hatched decoration suggests a date in the 17th Century.

A Post Medieval gold and enamel posy ring dating from about AD 1550 - 1700. The hoop is D shaped in cross section and has an internal upper case inscription reading: "• YOVRS - EVER - TO • COMADE (MNSHB)". The letters MA are beneath a breve (a sign which lets the reader know letters are missing), apparently indicating a missing M and N. The last five letters are enclosed in large round brackets, looking rather like a C and a reversed C. The letters are capital and have serifs. The us are Roman Vs and there is a pellet before the start of the legend, with a possible pheon (downward…

Gold mourning ring. It has been squashed slightly out of shape. It has a central raised ridge running round the outside of the ring, in the centre. This is triangular in cross section and there is a small break at one point, possibly where the bezel once was? On either side of this ridge there was originally black enamel but most of this is now missing, only fragments remain. Inside the ring is an incised inscription reading 'Live well and die well' followed by TS stamped inside a square.

Heavy gold signet ring, finely engraved with a coat of arms, oriented vertically, within a dotted border. Images of the signet ring were examined by Dr Clive Cheesman, College of Arms, who has provided the following information: 'The ring shows the coat of arms of a family called Prestwich. The coat of arms consists of a shield and, displayed on top of a helmet, a crest. The shield is quartered, the first and fourth quarters showing a design consisting of a mermaid, reputedly granted in the mid-16th century to a family called Prestwich of Hulme, Manchester. LOVE * AND THAYR * WYL * DE * THAYR [last word partly illegible] Discussion: This inscription is not recorded in J. A gold finger ring with a D-shaped section, no joint is evident in the hoop of the ring. The exterior of the hoop has been decorated with an elaborate floral design, with scrolling foliage and flowers. Inside some of the angles a trace amount of a black substance can be seen, it is therefore possible that the finger ring may have been enameled with black enamel. The edges of the hoop have a slightly raised rim. The interior of the hoop is inscribed with serifed capitals DESIRE.HATH.NO.RESTE. The stops are formed from small crosses. The area between the beginning and the end of the ins…
