Consequently …

It weighs 2.45 grams. British Museum Report: This ring is very damaged and the surface much worn. There appear to be traces of an inscription but it is not legible. Fragment of gold post-medieval finger ring. The fragment is the bezel of the ring. It is rectangular in plan and trapezoidal in section. It appears to be hollow. The bezel is set with a rectangular cut red stone (or possibly red glass). The stone in the second setting is damaged. The sides of the bezel are decorated with raised lines, which form scallops. Beneath these, on all sides is a border of tiny dotted or dashed indents. Around the bottom of the bezel is a slight flanged rim. This is decorated with a running motif of raised hollow squares and solid dashes. The underneath of …

Plain gold D-sectioned band with inscription around inner face: NOT*THIS*but*me π to.cho[s?e]* The symbol between me and to chose is likely a decorative flourish. This ring is unusual in having both capital and lower case lettering employed in the inscription. The combination of upper and lower case lettering indicates a 17th Century date rather than 16th. The N is reverse barred. There is an indeterminate symbol engraved between the words 'me' and 'to' which is likely a decorative flourish. The lettering is unevenly engraved and spaced, the last word truncated by the insertion of a …

Post Medieval to Modern gold finger ring. The band has a 'D' shaped cross section and has an inscription 'Content is a treasure' with the maklers mark Rn in a rectangle on the inside of the band. The ring weighs 4.41 grams and has a diameter of 19.66mm. Discussion: A similar inscription can be seen in Evans 90, 'Noe treasure to content' which has maker's mark dated 1630-62. However the makers mark appears to match AF.1338 (dated 17th- 18th Century - British Museum collection). Based on the design and the above information the ring cannot be securely dated to pre-1711 and as su…
