This gold ring has a thin flat hoop of even width, inscribed When + this + you + see + remember + mee
This is a popular inscription recorded by Joan Evans, in English Posies and Posy Rings (Oxford 1931) in various versions from the late 16th century onwards. The lettering could be late 17th or 18th century, but in the absence of any other identifying features there is not enough evidence to date it pre 1704.

Gold posy ring, shallow D-sectioned hoop of constant 2.5-3mm width, with a groove running around each edge on the exterior. There are inscriptions on both exterior (relief lettering) and interior (engraved and enamelled lettering). 17mm diameter, 1.67g.
The exterior inscription reads + I LOVE TO FYNDE + in raised but worn letters , starting and finishing with a cross. There is a pellet between the 'I' and 'LOVE', a quatrefoil with central dot between 'LOVE' and 'TO' and again between 'TO' and 'FYNDE'. Traces of b…

Plain gold band, scratched and worn, with the inscription: true love is the bond of peace.
The inscription is recorded by Joan Evans (1931) in a late 16th century manuscript and the lettering is consistent with a 17th century date, but we know that 17th century lettering style continued well into the 18th century from the British Museum's dated sequence of mourning rings. In the absence of marks or any distinguishing decorative feature there is no firm evidence to date this pre 1704.

Gold ring, formed of a small thin hoop of circular section, decorated all over with engraved cross-hatching containing traces of black enamel. In the absence of anything comparable in the collections this is a difficult piece to place. It may be a fitting of some kind rather than a finger-ring.

A late medieval finger-ring, with a D-shaped section. The hoop is decorated with a single zigzag groove, juxtaposed with small decorative punches. An almost identical ring with the same makers mark was found near Buckingham 2006/T528 and declared to be Treasure. It is now in the Bucks County Museum. The finger-ring is silver-gilt and dates from the early sixteenth century. Length 25mm, width 23mm, breadth 6mm & thickness 1.25mm. Consequently, in terms of age and as the object contains a minimum of 10% precious metal it qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

A damaged gold posey ring inscribed 'THY DESART HATH WOONE MY [heart symbol!] A thin gold band, the exterior decorated with a wreath motif, with alternate bands keyed for enamel or engraved with a foliate motif, inscribed inside in lower case: 'THY DESART HATH WOONE MY' followed by an engraved heart, probably once enamelled. The lettering style is one that goes on well into the 18th century and in the absence of a date or maker's mark, there is not enough evidence to confirm that this is more than 300 years old.

A complete post-medieval gold posy ring. The posy ring is circular in plan with a D-shaped section. There is no evidence of a join on the hoop. The exterior of the ring is undecorated. The interior is inscribed with the text "LET VERTUE BE THY GUIDE" the text is written in a cursive script. Maker's mark: TS in Blackletter.
Judy Rudoe comments: The mark is not identifiable in any standard work of reference, but the form of the letters is very close to the TS in conjoined circles found on three BM rings (posy rings AF.1395 and 1961,1202.86 and a mourning ring of 1711, AF.1543), and w…

A slightly distorted gold post medieval finger ring. The ring consists of a plain inner band over which is a cut-out and patterned layer raised into a hollow D shape. Eight petalled flowers buds and leaves make up the design which has incised detail. The ring appears to have been made as a strip which has been soldered into ha hoop as there are traces of the join. There is a makers mark of J or T C in monogram in a shield.
There are three rings of this type in the British Museum, none conclusively dated, but ranging from late 17th - early 18th C (1961,12-2.64 and 89, and AF1381). T…

A post medieval, gold posy ring with d-shaped hoop, which is slightly out-of-shape but remains intact. Inscribed to the inside 'x BE x FAITHFUL'. There are very small traces of black enamel within the lettering. The style of the lettering is consistent with other rings of this date.
The motto is recorded in Joan Evans, English Posies and Posy Rings (1931), p.25, although the inscription is in lower-case italics and there is only a single 'l' to the end of 'faithful'. One ring within the British Museum's collection has a similar inscription but this reads 'Be.faithfull.and.louing…

A gold mourning ring with a single skull engraved on the outer surface. It is inscribed to the inside "S R Aged 76 obijt 19 Aug 64". This is followed by a maker's mark consisting of the letters "TC" interlocked vertically in a punch in the shape of a shield. Mourning rings were made in commemoration of a recently deceased relative or friend. Money was usually left in wills with which to have mourning rings made. The inscription therefore refers to an individual with the initials SR, who died at the age of 76 on 19th August 1664.
The precious metal content of the ring fulfils the req…

Post-Medieval silver-gilt posy ring. D-shaped in section with an inscription of KEEPE ME IN MINDE on the inside of the hoop. The exterior of the hoop is undecorated but the ring is gilded on both the exterior and interior surface.
The use of capital letters suggests a 16th or 17th Century date. Similar finger-rings have been found and reported under the Treasure Act 1996, for example 2008 T599 from Stow, Lincolnshire and 2004 T240 from Albrighton, Staffordshire (Treasure Annual Report 2004, fig 207). According to J. Evans, English Posies and Posy Rings, Oxford 1931, p. 65, the inscr…

An undecorated gold finger ring, triangular in section and stamped internally with SH in a shield. I am greatful to Judy Rudoe for the following note: "As far as the shape is concerned, with no exterior decoration there is no evidence to dateit to more than 300 years old. As for the mark, the style of the letters and the shape of the shield is comparable to marks of the mid to late 18th. None of this suggests that it falls within the Treasure Act."

This gold ring has suffered considerable damage and is split at the front. Nevertheless it is recognisable as a standard type of the period with a square cusped bezel and carved shoulders. The setting for a central stone is empty. Note: Several comparable rings of this type are held by the British Museum.

A gold ring with a 'D' shaped setion and an incription around the inside of the band. The makers mark "ID"is stamped in a rectangle.
Judy Rudoe of the British Museum wrote
" Several smallworkers with this mark are recorded by A.Grimwade, (London Goldsmiths 1697-1837, London 1982)as entering marks between around 1720 and 1804. In the absence of a town mark, it is impossible to say whether this ring was made in London or elsewhere, but if London made, then the mark would confirm a post-1704 date".
