A Post-Medieval silver gilt posy finger ring (16th- early 17th century). The finger ring has a broad flat hoop with beaded borders that are, in turn, bordered by a raised rib. There is an inscription on the outer surface along the mid-line. The inscription in capital letters reads: "+ THINKS X ON X ME". The gilding is worn on the lower and upper edges of the finger ring. It is very similar in form but with a different inscription to the posy finger ring found in Drayton Parslow, Buckinghamshire that was dated to the 16th or early 17th century (Treasure annual report 2003: 126 no. 256)…

A Post Medieval copper alloy finger ring (AD1500-1650). The finger-ring has a raised bezel inset with a green faceted ?glass. The bezel sits on top of the hoop rather than being integral to the hoop. The hoop then narrows from 2.34mm at the shoulder to 1.66mm. The hoop has a D-shaped cross-section. The curve of the hoop has been distorted, probably modern damage. A complete copper alloy (brass) finger ring dating from the post-medieval period. The finger ring has an internal inscription and is commonly referred to as a 'posy' ring. The finger ring is made from a simple D-shaped band' the joining point or seam is clearly visible. There is no external decoration on the hoop. Inside the hoop is an inscription that appears to read 'TRIRD THE' however it is far from clear. An nondescript marking near the seam may be the maker's mark. This style of ring dates from the 17th to 18th century AD.

A complete copper alloy signet ring of post-medieval date. The finger ring has a sub-circular bezel with a crude engraving. The engraving is in the form of a heater-style shield within a border of dots around a linear score; the field of the shield has been divided into two, with one half depicting the outline of an Irish harp while the other field has indistinct scratches, possibly an unfinshed design attempting to imitate the flag of St George. The shoulders taper into the undecorated hoop. The imagery on the shield is interesting, as is the findspot and its association with the …

A complete but disorted gold 'posy' finger ring of post-medieval date. The finger ring has a thin D-sectioned band, plain on the external surface and with an inscription internally that reads 'Honoured for thy vertue' [sic]. This is followed by a makers mark, a monogram of WM in an oval field (this is located at the bend in the ring and is difficult to photograph). The finger ring is similar to an example in Oman (1974) plate 58, 1650 - 1700, and also examples in Grimwade (1982) from 1703 and 1705, although none are an exact likeness and no record of this maker's mark could be found i…

An incomplete gold finger ring of the post-medieval period. The finger ring is now distorted and comprises a bent strip of gold rather than a loop; on one side of the hoop, in its present form the outer surface, there is a continuous band of black letter style decoration. However this does not form an inscription as is seen on posy rings, more it is a continuous line of 'I' like letters around the circumference. There are no other marks or inscriptions. The ring is probably 17th or 18th century in date, c. AD 1650-1750. Black letter script was used in the medieval and post-medieval pe…

A copper alloy post-medieval or early modern finger ring. The finger ring is a plain band with D-shaped section, probably a wedding band. There is a incised line running around the middle of the band on the external surface, however it is unclear if this is purposeful decoration or rather just a result of the manufacturing. Inside the finger ring are four makers' stamps, all within a square or rectangular cartouche. The marks are: C, star, cross, W. These are probably pseudo marks, and it is likely that the ring was highly polished or even gilded to imitate gold wedding rings. Suggest…

A gold finger ring with a smooth, slightly D-shaped cross section, misshapen and uninscribed, probably dating from the post-medieval to modern period (c. 1650 - 1900). As there is no internal inscription nor a maker's mark it is not possible to ascribe a specific date to the ring. As such it cannot be considered Treasure under the 1996 Act as it cannot be said to be over 300 years old.

A complete copper alloy finger ring dating to the 18th century, known as a 'peasant ring'. These rings were mass produced during the late 17th - 18th centuries and many have the same design; in this case repeating panels of trumpet-like flowers (acanthus?) seperated by a vertical line. A possible maker's mark or pseudo hallmark is stamped internally where the copper alloy strip has been joined, but this is now illegible.

TREASURE CASE 2017 T1120. Description: A silver gilt post-medieval finger ring, now broken in two pieces. The finger ring has a wide band with the inscription '+ I HOPE TO HAVE' in capitals between a linear border of punched dome-shaped motifs. The lettering and the border decoration retains traces of gilding and it is likely that the entirety of the finger ring was gilded when new. Internally the band is plain with no internal inscription or maker's mark. Traces of gilding survive within. The finger ring is now in two pieces; a jagged break appears recent however a vertical break and…

Gold posy ring. Outside of the band is plain. On the inside is an inscription "my love with this presented is" The letters "ed is" at the end appear somewhat cruder than the others. The inscription appears to be a slight change to "My love by this presented is", which is a line from 'The Academy of Complements, or, A new way of Wooing', published in 1685. https://canmore.org.uk/site/339398/balblair Based on this date and the style of the lettering it would date to the late 17th - 18th century.
