Large copper alloy bezel of finger ring. Rectangular in outline and containing remnants of white paste. Beading around the top. The edge is decorated with diagonal incised lines. The underside of the bezel is a rectangular in outline rounded plinth which is decorated with radiating incised lines. The point where the ring was attached to the plinth is visible as two circles of iron staining, which suggests that the ring itself was iron. The bezel would have stood quite proud of the finger.

Gold mourning ring dating to 1679. The inside band is inscribed 'Mrs Sarah Doding died 26th Nov 79'. The outside of the band is decorated with engraved designs of a poppy, a rose and a thistle with a black background (in enamel). The bezel consists of a skull and crossbones picked out in white enamel. It is in very good condition and all the detail is very clear. The design is significant of the times and represent certain things. The rose is for England, the thistle for Scotland (and the Stuarts) and the poppy for Holland.
