Treasure case : 2008 T700 Gold ring, the hoop broken at the back, formed of a thin flat band, with stylised scrolls at the shoulder, the oval bezel with a monkey in relief. There are traces of white enamel on the shoulders and green and black (?) on the bezel. While this ring conforms to 16th century shape and decoration, the use of a flat hoop and bezel, with metal of this thinness, is extremely unusual and has no parallels in the British Museum collection. While we cannot rule out the possibility that it may be 16th-17th century, the balance of probability is that it is no…

The bezel is flat and octagonal in shape and has incised decoration on it - but this surface is badly corroded resulting in the loss of the surface. The design is possible a Tudor rose. The bezel sits proud of the shoulders. The shoulders then taper to the back of the hoop, the hoop has a D-shaped section. The ring is probably post-medieval in date. Bezel size = 17.7mm x 16.2mm x 5.02mm

A gold undiagnostic finger ring. It has been looked at by Judy Rudoe of the British Museum and the Treasure Registrars. Judy Rudoe commented: 'I can not identify the mark, but I suspect by its form that it is later, so not Treasure'. The finger ring has been bent and distorted out of shape. The hoop has a D-shaped section, no bezel, shoulders or other decoration is evident. The internal surface features the makers mark WA inside a rectangle. This ring is likely to date to the 18th - 19th century.

Treasure case: 2010 T87 "Gold ornamental ring, damaged, the bezel appears to be in the form of a heart with raised setting for a stone (empty) in the centre, the sides of the bezel cross-hatched to take enamel, with some black enamel remaining. Shoulders keyed to take enamel. Probably 18th Century, there is not enough evidence to confirm a pre-1710 date. As such this ring falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.
