On either side of the shield is a single flower, perhaps a rose. The ring is corroded and worn. If there was any decoration on the shield, it is no longer visible. The ring is 23mm long, 15.3mm wide at the bezel, and 10.5mm thick from front to back, the hoop being squashed. It has a dark brown …

A complete and misshapen gold posy finger ring of early eighteenth century date. Length: 23.5mm, width: 12.0mm. Weight 1.27g. Treasure case no. 2007 T244 (disclaimed). The ring is inscribed on the inside of the D-section hoop "I cannot show the love I O". This is followed by a stamped maker's mark in a rectangular punch of the letters PE in Roman capitals. A cast copper alloy finger ring of late medieval or post-medieval date. The slightly distorted hoop measures 17.8mm in diameter, it is 5.5mm wide and 1.2mm thick. It weighs 2.4g. The hoop has a rectangular cross-section and its width and thickness are consistent all the way round. On the exterior of the hoop there is a stamped pattern formed from wide and hollowed X-shapes, bordered by narrower X-shapes, alternating with diagonal branches. A similar finger ring features in Bailey's 'Detector Finds 3' (1997, p. 24). This is thought to be late medieval in date, but simple finger rings wi…

Gold mourning ring dating to 1679. The inside band is inscribed 'Mrs Sarah Doding died 26th Nov 79'. The outside of the band is decorated with engraved designs of a poppy, a rose and a thistle with a black background (in enamel). The bezel consists of a skull and crossbones picked out in white enamel. It is in very good condition and all the detail is very clear.
The design is significant of the times and represent certain things. The rose is for England, the thistle for Scotland (and the Stuarts) and the poppy for Holland.

Fragment of a silver-gilt finger ring comprising an oval bezel, in which would have once been set a gemstone, and a small section of both shoulders. From the parts of the shoulders that are visible, the hoop appears to have had circular decoration and it is on these parts of the ring that traces of gilding can be seen. In the absence of any clear distinguishing features to suggest the ring has a dating to pre-1707, this ring is classed as not Treasure.

A copper alloy finger ring fragment which is probably post medieval in date. It is 22.7mm long, 13.2mm wide and 3.7mm thick. The object is a little less than half of a finger ring with the bezel and shoulders surviving. The hoop is broken and the breaks appear to be old. The bezel is rectangular and has an oval hollow in it for the setting which is missing, though much white paste, presumably the glue, does survive. The hoop widens towards the bezel and there is a rectangular stop on each side of the bezel. This design suggests the post medieval date as it is not something commonly see…

A Post Medieval gold finger ring - memento mori (1670-1740). The plain thin gold band is engraved on the exterior with a skull and inscribed inside in lower case: 'Remember to dye', with a maker's mark GB in a quatrefoil shield with a pellet above and below. This type of ring had a long life from around 1670 to the 1730s, but as the mark is not listed in the standard London goldsmiths' marks sources, it is not possible to confirm a pre-1708 date for this ring.
