TREASURE CASE 2011 T876: Undiagnostic finger ring Date: unknown Description: Post-Medieval finger-ring, encrusted with brown substance (iron corrosion?), a patch of silver colour is visible on internal band. Exterior decorated with wreath. Discussion: This ring is rusting badly suggesting that a principle component is iron rather than silver and in its present state it is impossible to date it and hence to confirm it is over 300 years old. Dimensions: Weight: 1.6g Diameter: 20.13mm Band Width: 3.29mm Thickness: 1.96mm Analysis of the ring identified bands of different colour…

A iron and intaglio finger ring dating to the second or third century AD. The finger ring possesses an oval hoop which is D-shaped in section and expands significantly to wide shoulders. However, there is damage to the intaglio making it difficult to discern the exact nature of this motif. The damage may be deliberate. The internal diameter of the finger ring is 20mm. The external diameter is 25mm. The height of th…

A complete but badly corroded finger ring of probable Roman date. The ring has a sub-circular hoop almost having angles enough to be octagonal. It has an oval bezel that contracts from the shoulders to the hoop. While corroded the bezel appears to have a large oval region at its centre that is slightly concave giving the impression of a lip at its edge. This might have defined the space for an intaglio setting although any traces of this have now been lost. The ring is a brown orange colour and covered in iron corrosion product. The finger ring has a maximum diameter of…

Fragment of a Medieval silver-gilt iconagraphic finger ring with two bevels. These bevelled faces are rectangular with pointed ends and incised designs; the bevelled faces are separated by a two undecorated bevels, triangular in shape. This face shows a right hand held slightly across the torso of the bust, as well as the robes of the person depicted. The second design only survives on the upper half of the bevelled …
