An incompletePost Medieval copper alloy crotal bell, c.AD 1550-1750. The object comprises two hemispheres divided by a raised horizontal circumferential rib. There are two sound holes, one filled with corrosion, which would have flanked the integral rectangular suspension loop. A portion of the upper hemisphere around one of the sound holes is now missing. The lower hemisphere is composed of two circular sound holes close to the ridge between which is a rectangular sound slot. These holes and the slot have been closed due to corrosion. The iron pea is retained within the object.

A complete copper alloy Post Medieval crotal bell dating c.AD 1550-1750. At the top of the bell there is a sub rectangular suspension loop with an inverted U shaped opening. The bell is spherical, with a central circumferential rib separating the two hemispheres. The upper hemisphere features two holes on the opposite sides of the dome, one is circular and the other is larger and oval shaped, likely due to erosion. The lower hemisphere is composed of two circular sound holes which are connected by a sound slot that narrows at the bottom of the hemisphere. A complete Post-Medieval cast copper alloy crotal bell dating to c.AD 1500-1850. The crotal bell has an integral squared suspension loop at its apex and appears to be made from a one-piece mould, with a thick medial band to imitate the joining of the two hemispheres. The upper hemisphere is decorated with the 'sunburst' pattern and has two circular holes, while the lower hemisphere has two holes that have been connected, one of which has been damaged, becoming inverted into the crotal bell thus making the hole larger. The interior is packed with mud, so it is unclear if t…

An incomplete Post Medieval cast copper alloy crotal bell, c.AD 1800-1900. This crotal bell is cast in two hemispheres before being joined together around its cirumference. The suspension hoop at the top has worn through. The pip is still in the bell and can be heard when moving it. The bell itself is decorated with a series of semicircles, making it look like a pinecone; this decoration is worn in some areas. There are no maker's marks on this item.
