A half-groat of Henry VII (1485-1509), facing bust issue, probably struck at the episcopal mint in York for the benefit of Archbishop Savage (1501-1507). At some point it has been gilded on both faces; most of the gilt remains, and when found it was folded in half and contained a short length (20mm) of brown textile cord, made up of eight fine, intertwined strands.
