A copper halfpenny of George III, AD 1760-1820, dated AD 1771. Minted in London at the Tower Mint - First issue.
Obverse: Laureate and cuirassed bust right, GEORGI[VS] - III REX. Reverse: Britannia seated left, 1771 in exergue, BRITAN-NIA. The coin has been hammered on its edge in six places, and then predominately in one place, struck twelve times with a sharp object. (Chisel,knife ?). It has a diameter of 28.5mm, thickness 1.9mm, and weighs 9.1gm. Die Axis is 6 o'clock.
