The coin has been struck off centre and is slightly bent. It has also been pierced with a lozenge shaped hole above and to the right of the bust, from the obverse. The coin has been pierced, indicating a secondary function which would normally indicate that it should be considered as potential Treasure. However, since coins of this period with similar piercings appear in hoards of currency, it suggests that such objects could re-enter circulation as coins. It therefore cannot be said with confidence whether this particular object was regarded as a coin or as an item of jewellery at the time that the coin was deposited.
