Roman copper alloy nummus of Constantine I (306-337), BEATA TRANQVILLITAS reverse type (globe on altar), minted in Trier, 322-323 AD, RIC VII 368. The coin is pierced at 3 o'clock on the obverse and reverse, the piercing is worn but with a small tear. While pierced Roman coins have been found in both Roman and Anglo Saxon contexts the practice appears more common and 4th century coins are more commonly used in the latter period.
