White metal possible coin. A flat flan bearing faint trace of a bust right, otherwise featureless. Possibly clipped with the removal of legends; edges appear neatly cut. The overall impression is that this may not actually be a coin. It is possible this object may relate to a rash of forgeries reported from various sites detected by this club over the years, though those forgeries are usually of different style and construction, and are thought to come from a 'mint' in the Grimsby area. A white metal coin, probably a modern copy of a shilling of James I (1603 - 1625), second coinage (1604 - 1619), trefoil mintmark dating from 1613. Compare North number 2101. The coin appears to be a cast copy with the edge trimmed to remove the casting seam. This has produced an very square and shiny edge to the coin. The metal does not feel or sound like silver, and seems to be softer. The faces of the coin, especially the reverse are indistinct with a dimpled surface, often seen on cast imitations. The imitation coin is probably 20th century in date.

This piece might bear comparison with the products of Westair Reproductions Limited, though the WRL mintmark is not discernible. The object is partly melted. Obverse description: Bust laureate right. An extremely worn post-medieval white metal contemporary forgery of a half crown of William III (1694-1702).  Obverse: laureate bust right; legend [GVLIEL]MVS.[ III. DEI. GRA]. Reverse: illegible.  Measurements: diameter 33.45mm, thickness 1.81mm, weight 9.00g. This example is the right size but is lighter than the official issues of around 15g, a trait often seen on forgeries of the period.  Other examples of contemporary half crown William III forgeries recorded on the PAS database include: WAW-0DF698 and SUSS-9941E6.

Object is a complete, aluminium Reichsmark dating to 1939. The obverse features an eagle on top of a swastika, legend around reading 'Deutsches Reich 1939', translating to German Reich 1939, beaded border around circumference. The reverse features the denomination 'Reichspfennig 50', Mintmark 'A' in exergue between two leaves, minted in Berlin. The coin has a silver patina and has some signs of a dark orangy corrosion. The coins weighs 1.3g and is 22.49mm in diameter.

Modern replicas of the early medieval 'sword' type pennies of Eric Bloodaxe (c.939-54) dating to c.AD 952-4. These replicas are struck on a very round flan its weight is too high at 1.64g (the weight standard used for the original issues was 1.4g. The quality of the die cutting is lower than on the original coins. Possibly related to the Ashmore Replicas of the 1970s and 1980s. A white metal German reichspfennig coin of Modern date, c. AD 1940-1945. The coin is small and worn. The obverse is decorated with a faint reichsadler (spread eagle holding swastika) and the legend reads: [...]es Reich. The reverse contains a numeral 1 and the legend reads: Reichspfennig. Although of recent date, its interest may reside in its loss by a German Prisoner of War, either encamped or labouring nearby. Measurements: 15.8mm diameter, thickness 1.4mm, weight 0.7 grams. A modern white metal copy of a post-medieval halfgroat of Henry VIII (1509-1547), copying either the third or post-humous coinage. There are several reasons to consider this a modern rather than contemporary forgery, probably dating from the Victorian period onwards. The flan of the coin is too round for a hammered coin of this period, and the edges of the coin a flat with sharp corners. A white metal moulded copy of an early Post-Medieval Spanish coin. This coin is copying a silver hammered 8 reales of Philip II of Spain (born 1527, reigned 1556-98) minted in Lima (Peru) between 1577 and 1588. Philip II of Spain was the husband of the British Queen, Mary Tudor (born 1516, reigned 1553-1558, married 1554-1558) who was the daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon. Philip II of Spain was also responsible for sending the Spanish Armarda to attack England in 1588. The mint mark is D for Lima. Early Medieval plated contemporary copy of a Dirham of Abbasid, Hârûn ar-Rashîd 170-193 AH./786-809AD. and Da'ûd, an unidentified official found on Dirham with the mint name al-Muhammadîya 170-174, 182-186 The coin was a product of the same area as the official coinage and appears to be quite rare.
