A Roman Republican silver victoriatus coin, dating to c. 211 - 194 BC (Reece Period 1). Mint of Rome. RRC p. 157, no. 53/1 Obv. Laureate head of Jupiter Rev. ROMA; Victory right, crowning trophy Dimensions: 17.5mm diameter, 1.1mm thick. Weight: 2.67g. The Victoriatus was struck in silver which was rarely purer than 90%. It is an unusual denomination, but is commonly found in Southern Italy, suggesting that it was intended for use trading with the Greek cities in the region.
