These silver units have been published by Van Arsdell as coins of Verica and later being reinterpreted as issues of Tincomarus. This reading of his name was first identified on a coin from the Alton hoard, found in 1996 (see http://www.thebritishmuseum.ac.uk/explore/highlights)
Until this time his name had been reconstructed as Tincommius. It is highly likely that Tincomarus can be identified with the British king TIN mentioned in the Res Gestae Divi Augusti (an inscription outlining th…

Tincommios was joint ruler of the Atrebates kingdom, firstly with his father, Commios the Younger, and later with his younger brother, Eppilus. Tincommios chose to rule the southern sections of the kingdom, which proved to be a mistake as the town of Calleva (Silchester) under his brothers rule became recognised by the Romans as the main centre of Artebatum power.

A Late Iron Age silver unit of Tincomarus (25 BC-AD 10). The coin depicts a laureate head facing right on one side and a bull rearing on the other side with 'TIN' above and 'CO' below. ABC 1115; VA 381-1; BMC 911-21. The oval shape of the coin blank limits the detail on both sides. 'TIN' is roughly identifiable, but the 'CO' is cut off below.
