A first for CPAT, a fragment of a silver or bronze stater, most probably from the uninscribed examples from the Durotriges, who inhabited West Hampshire, Dorset and parts of Somerset during the 1st century BC to the 1st Century AD. That in itself is interesting as these coins are not well known this far north. In close examination, it is most probably bronze. Although some bronze examples from this tribe were cast, this is certainly a ‘struck’ coin and in style, copies the ‘westerham type (Seaby 21). Update May 2022: From the decription this sounds like a coin of Cunobelin; An Iron Age copper-alloy unit of the North Thames Region / Catuvellauni and Trinovantes, struck in the name of Cunobelin, dating to the period AD 10-40, similar to (if not actually) 'Cunobelinus Centaur' type. Obverse: [CVNOBELINI], Laureate head left. Reverse: [TASCIOVANI F], A centaur right, blowing a horn. As ABC, p. 141, no. 2957; BMC (Hobbs) nos.1968-1971; VA 2089.

A contemporary copy of an IISVPRASV stater - ABC (Cottam et all 2010) no. 1917, p.99. Reverse: IISV; disjointed horse left facing, annulet below neck. ABC calls this ruler ESVPRASV, however IISVPRASV is how the name appears on the coins. They were struck somewhere between about AD 30 and 50, in Lincolnshire and surrounding counties (and therefore get attributed to the "Corieltavi").
