A modern copy of a North-Eastern 'Ferriby' stater. This example is made out of lead. The obverse depicts a wreath made of two lines of diagonal lines. Next to this are two pellets. A deep groove runs across the coin adjacent to the lines. The reverse depicts a rather clumsy attempt at a horse left. This revese of this coin is almost identical to that on an apparently unfinished copy found several miles to the north-west in Stainton by Langworth: LIN-B89EFD. Further lead alloy objects bearing Iron Age coin motifs are also known in the region:LIN-B8D9B9, LIN-B8C44E, LIN-B89EFD, NLM-7…

Probably a milled silver coin of the British Protectorate period in Egypt. It bears the name of the Sultan Hussein Kamil (in Arabic) who was Sultan of Egypt and Sudan from AD 1914 to 1917. The elaborate style of surviving inscription on the image of the obverse can be matched with the examples below. Only a very small part of the reverse inscription survives but what does can also be seen to be the same. I think the coin was originally a 20 piastres piece. The coin is unusually thin, distorted and extremely battered and incomplete. This would suggest that the coin may have been d…

A complete cast copper alloy coin (falus), of Modern dating (19th Century). Cast copper alloy falus of Morocco, very worn. While the obverse of the token depicts a star-of-David shaped pattern, the reverse is less legible. One can recognise two vertical, parallel lines with an illegible sign or letter between them. The sign look like a '3' or '8'. However, due to the wear of the coin it is difficult to tell whether it is a number or possibly, a letter of the Latin or possibly even Jewish alphabet. The coin is sub circular in plan. Both the obverse and reverse exhibit embossed (raise…

A complete and modern cast lead alloy reproduction of a Charles I shilling, probably made in the 20th century AD (diameter: 32.5mm; thickness: 1mm; weight: 5.4g). The mintmark depicted is a cross, and is not recognisable among any of the mints known throughout Charles I's reign. neither is the bust type on the obverse. A "modern" copper-alloy Falus from Morocco. The obverse shows a six pointed star with a pellet at the centre and a border consisting of several closely-spaced lines. The image on the reverse is unclear but probably includes a religious staff. The Hebrew date (AH) 1271 is given. This places the coin in the reign of Abd-Al-Rahman and equates to the year 1854 AD. The reverse design sits within a double raised border. The coin is slightly bent and worn. It measures 27.9mm diameter by 2.2mm thick and weighs 8.83g.

Broken cast copy of a silver long-cross penny of Edward III (1327-1377). Modern reproduction. Obverse legend like third coinage but bust resembles fourth coinage. The weight of 0.85 g is also only two thirds of the weight of a typical silver penny of Edward III, that I have recently recorded, with a comparable amount of the edge of the coin missing.

Early modern Barbados penny dating from 1788. The penny coin was struck in 1788 for use in Barbados and was the first coin to be used on the island. It is thought to have been privately commissioned by Sir Philip Gibbs, a local plantation owner, and is therefore considered to be a token rather than legal tender.
