VENUS SC reverse type, depicting Venus holding an apple and leaning on a pillar. Mint of Rome. Not listed in RIC. The figure of Venus has a similar stance to Spes on the reverse of a coin of Marcus Aurelius as Caesar, struck AD 153-4 (BMC pl. 47, no. 16; RIC III, p. 184, no. 1320). This would suggest that the Faustina piece was struck around the same time and might be another 'Coin of British Association', issued for use in Britain.
