An incomplete copper alloy contemporary copy of a Roman sestertius of Claudius I (AD 41-54), dating to the period AD 43 - c.50 (Reece Period 2). Uncertain reverse type. Uncertain mint. This coin is a British provincial imitation, which has been countermarked PROB, short for Probatum meaning "approved". PROB is a British variant of the abbreviation. This countermark gave official sanction to the coin by the Roman government or its legal representatives (Baker 1984, 54).
