A highly worn and degraded probable 4th century roman nummus (AE2). Illegible Ruler and type, c.AD296-402 (Reece periods 15-21). Possibly from the House of Valentinian c. AD 364 to 378 (Reece Period 19) Obv.: Cuirassed bust. Leg.:llegible. Rev.: Illegible left. Leg.: Illegible. Measurements: 22.64mm in diameter, 2.35mm thick and 3.74g in weight. Discussion: It has been suggested by Sam Moorhead (2013, 141), National Finds Advisor on roman coinage, that nummi of the House of Valentinian (AD364 to 392) are particurlarly prone to corroding to this orangey-brown colour.

A clipped siliqua of the House of Valentinian or possibly House of Theodosius, Virtus Romanorum reverse, 364-410. The clipping has removed the legend, but the bases of some letters on the reverse make it clear that the coin is a Virtus Romanorum and not Vrbs Roma.
