A replica of Cnut of Northumbria (c. 900 - 905). This coin was found in an area of known Viking Age re-enactments and was examined by the FLO and Dr John Naylor, and was found to be a modern reproduction on the following grounds, Although the coin has inscriptions and obverse/reverse designs which are faithful to the originals, there are  problems when you examine the coin closely: the combination of obverse  (EC-1ii) and reverse (CR-G) type seen on this coin isn't seen in the Cuerdale hoard (which is a large sample) the letter forms are quite scruffy…

A modern forgery / reporduction of an iron age Cheriton Stater Dr Philip de Jersey comments: 'This is ... a modern fake, an imitation of the Cheriton stater (Ancient British Coins 755) which first appeared some twenty years ago. There is a picture of one on p. 201 of Chris Rudd's ABC. They caused quite a problem in the early/mid 1990s, before we realised that every single one was struck from the same dies, and on the same die axis, and therefore they were presumably produced in some sort of hinged die. We never did get to the bottom of who was producing them, though it was somewhe…

Penny of Edward the Confessor 1048-1050. As North number: 818. NOTE: this is a modern forgery made of resin! It has been recorded to serve as a parallel for other coins likely to be made from the same dies. With the exception of its material, which feels light for a comparative thickness in silver and slightly waxy, all other elements of the coin appear legitimate. Indeed, some coins of Edward the Confessor on the PAS database are actually lighter than this example. However, this was a metal-detected discovery and produced a faint metallic signal in the ground. Aluminium copy of a Charles I sixpence, copying the silver shillings minted at Pontefract during 1648 and 1649, the so-called 'siege' pieces. Sixpences were never minted at Pontefract, but were at Scarborough in 1644-5 and Newark in 1646. However, these latter types are square or diamond-shaped in profile, not disc-shaped as in this case. This copy seems to have been stamped and then cut out as a disc, as it has an edge on the reverse that stands slightly proud of the surface of the coin but no edge on the obverse.
