A cast and gilded counterfeit coin of uncertain date, representing a medieval penny of King John (AD 1199-1216), dating to the period AD 1204-5. Copying class 5a2*, minted by Iohan of Norwich. The coin has several cracks along the flan with a small rectangular piece having broken away.
The penny it represents is described in: North, vol.I, p.221, ref.*969

Coinage of the period between the king's overthrow and his eventual execution.
This appears to be a cast forgery in pewter or a similar alloy, the metals used in this issue vary considerably but are usually of bronze, often derived from melting down church bells.
