Approximately half of the coin survives that is also folded in half. Obverse: shield bearing three lis with the letter H flanking on either side. Reverse: cross fourchee.

Description: Series E, Variety G2 quilled 'porcupine' type. Obverse: Coarse-quilled crescent right, triangular head with two pellets. Reverse: degenerate beaded standard containing central pellet-in-annulet and broken line either side. Abramson (2012, 189 no 89.20). The coin is quite corroded, worn and chipped.

A fragmented (in three pieces) late medieval debased silver halfpenny of Henry VI (first reign,1422-61). Leaf Issue dating to the period (1434-1435). Mint of Calais. All inscription illegible, with surface displaying substantial verdigris. North (1991) no.1481.
Measurements : diameter 13.4mm, thickness 0.4mm and weight 0.4g.
Discussion : found together in the wake of a potato harvester already in three pieces. The only reference to be found regarding the leaf in one quarter (bottom of lower right quarter in photo) is by Withers and Withers (2004 58).

A heavily billon silver douzain of Henry III of France (r.1575-1589), but coins struck in his name until at least 1594, uncertain type and mint. The coin has been countermarked with fleur de lis in oval of pellets to revalue it at 15 deniers under Louis XIII during the ordinance of June 1640. The coin is also suffering some verdi gris from the copper-alloy of the billon silver base.

Obverse: Head of Tanit left wearing wreath and corn ears. Reverse: Horse standing right in front of date palm.
The coin is 15.4mm in diameter, 2.6mm thick and weighs 1.96 grams.
This coin does have a silvery appearance and billon coins for this issue have been noted (three are in the Bardo Museum in Tunisia - see Alexandropoulos 2007, p. 367 (cited below). Note also that the dating of this issue is not known for certain and some scholars have dated the ser…
