Silver penny probably dating to the later years of the reign of Edward III. This penny is very worn and has been clipped in antiquity. Obverse: bust facing EDW [ ]DVS[ ] Reverse: CIVI/TAS [.......] longcross with central D(?) Dr. John Naylor of the Ashmolean Musuem has reserached this penny and has been unable to find a parallel for the reverse type. During the later years of Edward III and Richard II, mints and dies were not as strictly regulated as was previously the case and so unusual or unknown dies do occur for this type of coin.
