An almost complete silver Post Medieval coin; a halfpenny of the Commonwealth of England (1649 - 1660). The coin is possibly a silver plated contemporary copy because it seems unusually light and the surface is flaking.

A white metal coin, probably a modern copy of a shilling of James I (1603 - 1625), second coinage (1604 - 1619), trefoil mintmark dating from 1613. Compare North number 2101. The coin appears to be a cast copy with the edge trimmed to remove the casting seam. This has produced an very square and shiny edge to the coin. The metal does not feel or sound like silver, and seems to be softer. The faces of the coin, especially the reverse are indistinct with a dimpled surface, often seen on cast imitations. The imitation coin is probably 20th century in date.
