A clipped imitation of a medieval gold quarter noble of Edward III (1327-1377). The obverse shows annulets on the cusps of the tressure and a lis in the centre of the reverse suggesting the prototype was a quarter noble of Edward III's Treaty Period, the annulets seen in the 'Transitional Series' of 1361-3 (North 1224), the lis seen in the Treaty Series of 1363-9 (North 1243-4). However, there are a number of differences: the inscriptions on both obverse and reverse vary from the standard legends although are both legible and literate, e.g. GRACIA is spelt in full…

A Medieval to Post-Medieval gold 10 Cruzados (Português) of Manuel I of Portugal (1495-1521), dating to AD1499-1521 (Gomez 74.05). The coin has a small, round punch mark (located at 3 o'clock on the line of the inner circle on the obverse, and by the top of the central cross at at 1 o'clock on the reverse) which has almost pierced the coin. The punch was made from reverse to obverse.

The inscription 'CATTI' is visible on the reverse. The Dobunni were an Iron Age tribe with a range of rulers. Often rulers had similar coins but changed specific details. The details changed include: shape of the horse's head; the obverse type; the number of pellets surrounding the horse; the inscription above the horse.
