The coin is misshapen and the legends on both sides of the coin have evidence of overstamping and the obverse appears to have parts of the reverse legend on it (although it does not appear to be a brockage), although the centre of the coins does not appear to have been overstamped. An incomplete base silver post-medieval shilling of Edward VI. Uncertain initial mark, uncertain mint (AD 1549-1550; Second period;North 1917 et seq.).
The coin is pierced above the King's head. These base shillings were re-valued in 1559, in the reign of Elizabeth, to pass at four and a half pennies.
