An incomplete medieval Anglo-Gallic "black money" billon (base silver) denier of Richard II as Duke of Aquitaine (1377-1399), Elias 229. Ref: Elias 1984: 204.
The coin is in poor condition, corroded and incomplete, missing part of the outer circle. There are also three small holes/splits in the flan around the inner circle.
Obverse; cross with lys and leopards alternately in the quarters, + [R]ICARD RX [AnGLIE FR]ACIE. Reverse: cross pattee, +DO[mINVS ]AQVITAnIE.
This coin is the first Anglo-Gallic issue of Richard II to be recorded by the PAS.
