Early medieval base silver styca of Eanred of Northumbria, dating to c. 810 - 841 AD. The obverse of the coin has the name of the king around a central cross pattee, spelling + E A N R E D R E X. There is a lot of variety in the size of the letters and all are retrograde. A and N in particular are much bigger than the rest and run in to each other. On the reverse of the coin is the name of the moneyer Folcnoth in the form: + [F] O L C N O D M (the first O has a dot in the centre). The dimensions of the styca are: 13.97mm in diameter and 1.18mm in thickness. The styca has a weight of 0.92g.
