A corroded Early-Medieval silvered copper-alloy sceat of Secondary Phase Series E. The coin is worn and appears to be plated on a base metal core and can be considered a contemporary imitation/forgery. Stylistically it does not copy any particular variety closely but does imitate the general design of the series (Secondary Phase types are notoriously diverse). Series E are mostly from the Rhine area or Frisia, but a forgery such as this may equally derive from England or elsewhere on the North Sea coast. Date: c.720-c.760.
